Apple Wallet Loyalty Cards for Restaurants — No App Required

Your guests already have their phone in hand when they walk in. Apple Wallet holds their credit cards, boarding passes, and event tickets. Now their loyalty card from your restaurant can sit right there too. No app to download, no account to create, no friction at all.

Why Apple Wallet beats a standalone app

Building a custom app costs EUR 10,000-50,000. Convincing guests to download it is even harder. App fatigue is real: the average person downloads zero new apps per month. Apple Wallet bypasses all of this. The guest taps a link, the card appears in their wallet. Done.

Apple Wallet cards also have built-in features that no paper card or basic app can match. Location-based notifications surface the card when the guest is near your restaurant. Push updates let you notify guests when they're close to a reward. The card updates automatically every time a stamp or point is added.

How it works with Plattr

When a guest enrolls in your loyalty program, they see an "Add to Apple Wallet" button. One tap and the card is installed. The card shows their current progress: stamps collected, points balance, or cashback credit, depending on which program type you're running.

At each visit, the guest opens their wallet and shows the QR code on the card. Your staff scans it with the Plattr scanner (works on any phone), and the transaction is recorded. The card updates in real-time.

What the card looks like

You customize the card with your restaurant name, logo, and colors. For stamp cards, the card shows a visual stamp grid, so guests can see their progress at a glance. Four layout options are available: classic grid, compact grid, overlay, and badge style. The stamp icons are customizable too, with 59 food-themed icons to choose from.

The card also works with Google Wallet for Android users. Same enrollment flow, same functionality. You don't need to worry about which phone your guests use.

Push notifications without an app

Apple Wallet cards support push notifications through Apple Push Notification Service (APNs). When a guest earns a new stamp or approaches a reward threshold, Plattr sends an update to their card. The guest sees a notification on their lock screen. This keeps your restaurant top of mind without requiring them to open anything.

Enrollment options

Guests can enroll through multiple channels. A QR code at your counter or on your tables links to the enrollment page. Your digital menu can include an enrollment link. If you're listed on the Plattr Guide, guests can join from your Guide listing too.

The enrollment page collects a name and optional phone/email. Then the guest adds the card to their wallet. Total time from scan to wallet: under 30 seconds.

What plan do you need?

Apple Wallet and Google Wallet integration is included on the Small plan at EUR 59/month, with up to 500 loyalty members. The Plus plan (EUR 139/month) supports 2,500 members and adds SMS notifications. The Pro plan (EUR 249/month) adds NFC scanning (tap-to-scan instead of QR), auto-detect, and unlimited members.

All loyalty types, stamps, points, cashback, coupons, and subscriptions, work with wallet cards. Check all plan details on the pricing page.

Security and data protection

Every Apple Wallet card in Plattr uses a permanent member ID for the QR code. When scanned, the server validates the member, checks for cooldown periods (preventing double-scans), and verifies restaurant isolation (a card from Restaurant A can't be scanned at Restaurant B). All data is encrypted in transit and at rest, GDPR-compliant by design.

The member's personal information (name, email) is never stored on the card itself. The card contains only the member ID and display information (stamps collected, points balance). If a phone is lost, no personal data is exposed. The restaurant can deactivate the member from the dashboard, and the card stops working immediately.

Real-world impact

Restaurants using Apple Wallet loyalty cards see 3-5x higher engagement compared to web-only loyalty pages. The reason is proximity: the card surfaces when the guest is near the restaurant. This passive reminder drives incremental visits that wouldn't happen otherwise. A guest walking past your restaurant at lunchtime sees the card notification and thinks "I'm 2 stamps away from a free coffee." That's a visit you wouldn't have gotten with a paper card sitting in a drawer at home.

Give your guests a loyalty card they'll never lose. Sign up for Plattr and set up Apple Wallet cards for your restaurant.
